Malvan is one of the best tourist locations in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is well known for its beaches, forts, temples in surrounding areas, seafood, and pleasant weather as it’s part of the coastal belt. The beaches of Malvan are the best destination for Scuba diving and water sports.
Eating out at the local restaurants of Malvan will be a pleasurable experience for all food lovers. Most restaurants and hotels in Malvan specialize in sea foods and serve some of the freshest and most delicious cuisines.
It is known for its variety of mangoes (Malvani Hapus - Alphonso). It is also known for sweets such as Malvani Khaja (Made from Gram - besan flour and coated jaggery) and Malvani Ladoos.
- Scuba Diving in India there is very few places where scuba diving can be done and Malvan is one of them. Due to its relatively clear sea waters, Malvan serves as a perfect spot for scuba diving (done mostly with surface oxygen supply) and snorkeling. Near the outer walls of Sindhudurg fort, one can see lots of live corals and beautiful marine life under the sea.
- Snorkeling is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and usually swim-fins. The use of this equipment allows the snorkeler to observe underwater attractions for extended periods of time with relatively little effort. Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity. The primary appeal is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting without the complicated equipment
- Parasailing is also known as parascending, or "parakiting", is a recreational kiting activity where a person is towed behind a vehicle (usually a boat) while attached to a specially designed canopy wing that reminds one of a parachute, known as a parasail wing. The manned kite's moving anchor may be a car, truck, or boat. The harness attaches the pilot to the parasail, which is connected to the boat, or land vehicle, by the tow rope. The vehicle then drives off, carrying the para ascender (or wing) and person into the air. If the boat is powerful enough, two or three people can parasail behind it at the same time. The para ascender has little or no control over the parachute. The activity is primarily a fun ride, not to be confused with the sport of paragliding.
- Water Sports where one can enjoy rides like Jet-Ski, Banana boat ride, Bumper boat, Kayaks, etc. The best time to visit Tsunami island for water sports is during high tide when the small island is partially submerged under the water (till knee length).
- Night Boat ride Locals can arrange for a night boat ride for a price depending upon the size of the group and if the weather conditions are right. However please remember the boats would be coming back by 21:00 as then the night fishing would start. Those who want to see Dolphin Treks and Trails would recommend a boat ride early in the morning. If possible visit Tarkarli by April end to reduce the disappointment of not seeing a Dolphin.
